Sports Trade Think Tank Event,
Etrop Grange, 3rd December 08
The Sports Trade Think Tank met in
Manchester in December. James Crawford of Touchpoint Change
introduced the discussion on the theme of 'Selling your way through the
recession'. The event was hosted by Tim Drake and featured
Touchpoint Change Associate Phil Smith, the seasoned MD of
several well known high street retailers. Phil shared his
views about what can make a difference during challenging times, and
how retailers and suppliers benefit from working more closely together.
The presentation focused on
three critical elements:
Marketing
- branding, advertising, customer analysis,
Sales - retailer
management, display design, sales staff capability, and
Supply chain
management - manufacturing, supplier management
and logistics.
All of these elements need to work
together 'as a system' in order to maximise revenues at the point of
sale; at the 'touchpoint' with the customer
who makes the decision to buy or not to buy.

Other topics discussed during the
Think Tank were:
1. What else should
businesses be doing going into the recession? This was the
subject of an article in our October
Newsletter. To be successful you should resist the
temptation to slash the marketing budget and instead find opportunities
to focus the spend more effectively and get more value from it.
2. How can email
marketing be most effective? Take a look at some tips which
NewZapp recently presented at a Business Exhibition in
Manchester - download here.
3. Getting the most out
of your people by performance profiling - a powerful method for
selecting new job candidates and developing the skills of existing
staff.
