Our Charities
We
still have a very long way to go when it comes to transforming our own
organisations and society in the UK, but there are many others who have
a lot further to travel.
We
therefore support charities in four key transformational areas,
annually donating 10% of our profits or 1% of our turnover, whichever
greater. The areas
we focus on are:

Peace,
and conflict
resolution - the fundamental requirements for stable and
prosperous societies include peace and the rule of law.
Sadly many countries still struggle to reach this
modest situation. Organisations such as The Foundation for
Peace work with schools, communities and ethnic
groups in the UK and around the world to
bring an end to
conflict,
start the painful
journey of reconciliation & move
towards long-term
stability.

Sustainable development
and education – many people around the world can benefit
enormously from having access to simple technology that can help
increase crop yields, preserve seasonal foods, enable education,
generate income, improve equality and strengthen communities.
Practical Action
introduces appropriate technology and best
practices to developing
countries so that
they can find better
ways of
working
and become more self reliant.

Economic
development
– all but the most isolated communities around the world rely on
entrepreneurs and businesses. They provide services and
create the wealth that can support the community and help them survive
during difficult times. Organisations
such as Oxfam provide loans to farmers and small businesses
to enable
them to
get started, develop their
services and provide
employment.

And
finally, disaster
management, recognising that when
catastrophes strike, whether natural or man-made, simple survival is
the greatest need of so many. The
Disasters Emergency Committee was set up to mobilise help quickly to
those most in most urgent need.
